in a recent quilt show.
The
Sierra Mountain Quilters Association (SMQA) will present their 15th
quilt show, which will take place on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the show at a new and larger, venue
held at Yosemite High School at 50200 School Road (Road 427) in Oakhurst.
Myra Algots, a charter member of the guild, will be the featured quilter.
Algots and her husband moved to Oakhurst in 1978 after he retired
and she terminated her employment as a part-time librarian with Fresno
School District. She loves quilting and has taught classes for the
guild and a local quilt shop.
There will be a display of 37 items that Algots has made, including
small “cuddle quilts,” jackets, wall hangings and large quilts.
More than 100 quilts have been entered in the show, most of them by
residents of the Mountain Area.
In addition to the display of quilts there will be vendors presenting
a variety of quilt related products.
Food prepared by SMQA members, including homemade desserts will be
available.
A country store, sponsored by the guild, will be selling quilts, fabric,
books, magazines, tools and other handmade items.
The drawing for the winner of the SMQA opportunity quilt “Sierra Mountain
Nine-Patch,” will be drawn at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday.
A second opportunity quilt, made by the guild, has recently been presented
to the Eastern Madera County Society for the Prevention of Animals
will be on display.
The guild produces a quilt each year for local non-profit agencies
to use for fund-raising.
