center releases summer swim schedule
Area residents interested in swimming lessons are no longer out
of luck thanks to the Yosemite High School Baker Swim Complex

The Baker Swim Complex, located on the campus of Yosemite High School,
will be open to the public at times throughout the summer.
The
summer schedule for the Baker Swim Complex at Yosemite High School,
which opened toward the end of last summer, has been released to give
people an opportunity to plan their summer aquatics programs. There
will be four sessions: June 20 to July 1; July 5 to July 15; July
18 to July 29 and August 1 to August 12.
New student registration begins Sunday, June 5, at the swim complex
and will be held Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. After Sunday, June
19, registration will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4
p.m. at the complex and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration
will be on a first-come, first-served basis until each class is filled.
Advance registration is required for all classes since space is limited.

Summer programs will include:
Masters and Adult Fitness Swimming, Monday through Friday, 6:30 to
8 a.m.; noon to 1 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10
a.m. to noon. This is a special time set aside for lap swimming for
adults. Monthly memberships are $30; multiple-use cards are $15 and
pay-as-you-go is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and students.
Open “pick-up” water polo: On Tuesday and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9
p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon, during adult fitness swimming,
half of the deep end of the pool will be set aside for water polo.
One lifeguard will facilitate a game if there is enough interest.
Water Exploration: This is for ages 1 to 3 years; it follows the Mommy
and Me curriculum set forth by the American Red Cross. Each child
must be attended by a parent or guardian in the water. Cost is $40
per session, per class, per student. Swimming instruction is from
8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Learn to Swim Instruction: This is for ages 4 to 17 with students
grouped by age as much as possible. It follows the curriculum set
forth by the American Red Cross.
There will be four levels for swimmers to progress through, after
which they will receive an invitation to join the Yosemite Swim Club.
Cost is $40 each session, per class, per student. Swimming instruction
is from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Adult group swim lessons: noon to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday. This is for ages 18 and up and follows the same curriculum
as the Learn to Swim lessons.
Cost is $40 each session, per class, per student.
Private swim lessons: This is for all ages. Private lessons will be
one hour in length and facilitated by the Baker Swim Complex. Students
will need to complete a registration form and a request form to indicate
a preference of instructor. Cost is $30 per lesson.
Water aerobics: For ages 18 and up with varying age groups based on
intensity of classes. Cost is to be determined. These sessions will
be noon to1 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Open recreational swimming: The pool will be open to the public from
1 to 4 p.m. daily. Monthly memberships are $30; multiple use card
is $15 and pay-as-you-go is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and students.
The Yosemite Water Polo Club and Yosemite Diving Club practices will
be announced once the teams are started.
Yosemite Swim Club practices 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The pool will be reserved for private parties from noon to 1 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday.
A full concession stand will be open with a variety of food and beverages
from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
