High FFA makes presence known at state convention

The
Yosemite High School Future Farmers of America Chapter was well represented
at the 77th annual State FFA Convention, held April 16 through April
19 in Fresno.
The 14 members attending from YHS joined more than 5,000 FFA members
from all over the state.
Events that took place during the four-day span included: Educational
workshops at California State University, Fresno; keynote speakers,
retiring addresses of State FFA officers, field trips to working dairies/farms,
general sessions and the members’ opportunity to be involved in all
aspects concerning the FFA by-laws and Constitution.
The final day was spent in the Selland Arena with all members attending
to reflect on the past year and accomplishments made by each chapter.
Installation of the state officers for the 2005-2006 school year closed
the convention.
Nick Burkert, YHS senior, attended and was one of 48 candidates vying
for a state office.
Additionally attending were: Karen Boortz, Ashley Christensen, Castin
Ecklund, Travis Ecklund, Jessica Gambril, and Crystal Hubbard.
Also, George Landolt, Rachel Olsten, Alex Plumb, Mellany Silva, Kaiti
Simms, Amanda Steen, Robert Zimmerman, and chaperones: Shannon Ecklund
and Brad Bessey, ag advisor.
