Air
Force Band to perform at Oak Creek Intermediate
The
United States Air Force Band of the Golden West Concert Band will
perform in the cafeteria at Oak Creek Intermediate School Friday,
Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. The public is welcome; admission is free.
Yosemite High School Band Director Randy Hyatt has arranged the visit.
“This will be a super community event,” he said.
The concert band is comprised of 45 musicians with instruments including
woodwinds, brass, percussion, keyboards and electric/string guitars.
There are also vocalists.
The band plays standard concert band/wind ensemble pieces, military
marches, jazz and pop arrangements, Broadway excerpts and patriotic
songs.
The group tours in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Idaho.
The concert band is one of 11 performing groups in the United States
Air Force Band of the Golden West, stationed at Travis Air Force Base.
It is the only remaining active-duty Air Force band west of the Rockies.
Sixty musicians perform in the 11 groups. The band has performed for
gubernatorial inaugurations, sports events and led the Rose Bowl Parade
in 1997, 2000 and 2003.
