Yosemite valedictorian selected as President’s Scholar

Brian Troutner of Oakhurst has been selected as a President’s Scholar for the incoming Class of 2004 at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).

As a result, the graduated senior from Yosemite High School will receive a full four-year scholarship from the university.
Troutner, the son of Diane and Tim Troutner, was selected from 650 applicants and will be among 68 new scholars when fall classes begin Aug. 30.

That brings the total number of high school valedictorians and National Merit Scholars attending the university to 365. To date, more than 700 scholars have participated in the program.

Established by CSULB President Robert C. Maxson in 1995, the President’s Scholars Program, recognized as the premier program of its kind in the state, was created to bring valedictorians and National Merit scholars from California high schools to Cal State Long Beach.

Troutner was a valedictorian in this year's graduated class from Yosemite High.

At Cal State Long Beach, he is planning to major in civil engineering.
As a President’s Scholar, Troutner will receive a full scholarship covering general student fees, an annual book allowance and paid housing in the campus residence halls for four years.

In addition, he will have priority registration, personal academic counseling and more. The total value of the scholarship is about $25,000.
The benefits for qualifying valedictorians and National Merit scholars from accredited California high schools are made possible through the support of the CSULB Alumni Association, President’s Associates and the Corporate Scholars Council.
