Malissa Trenholm,
Yosemite High School student, has been named by the United States
Achievement Academy (U.S.A.A.) as a United States National Award
winner in history and government. Nominated by Ellen Peterson, a
teacher, she will be mentioned in the U.S.A.A. Official Yearbook,
published nationally.
This award is a prestigious honor that few high school students
can ever hope to attain.
The Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high
school students.
“Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever
before in America’s history,” said Dr. George Stevens, executive
director of the Achievement Academy.
“Certainly, U.S.A.A. winners should be congratulated and appreciated
for their dedication to excellence and achievement.”
The Academy selects these winners upon the exclusive recommendation
of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and
upon the Academy’s Standards of Selection. Among the criteria are
academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities,
responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship,
attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation
from a teacher or director. Malissa is the daughter of Mark Trenholm
and Krysia Lewis of Madera and the granddaughter of Wilma Trenholm
of Imboden, Arkansas, and Bob and Ruth Kazmier of Fresno.
