Diane Adney receives congratulations after being presented her plaque
as Teacher of the Year.
Diane Adney
has been honored as the Yosemite Joint Union High School District
2004 Teacher of the Year.
She was nominated for the honor because she is “someone who works
well with our students to educate them not only in classroom lessons,
but in common sense as well.”
Adney teaches at Mountain View High School, she teaches the Associated
Student Body class at Yosemite High School and she is the YHS activities
director. District staff members submitted nomination letters for
the teacher of the year award and a staff committee selected the
recipient.
In the nomination letter, Adney was called “a true asset” to Yosemite
High and she was praised for “her hard work and dedication to our
students and the guiding hand she lends them.”
It was noted that Adney likes working with the students and “is
highly respected by them.” “Diane is not afraid to speak her mind
when a student is acting incorrectly and the students respond to
her in a positive way because they know she likes them and her comments
are both constructive and caring,” the nomination letter noted.
Adney has worked at YHS as a classified employee, a teacher and
an acting administrator when Assistant Principal Tom Fiormonti was
on medical leave.
“She accepted the new responsibilities without reservation,” according
to the letter, “and made every effort to perform her duties to the
best of her abilities. Diane is a very flexible person who can be
counted on when tough decisions need to be made.”
As activities director, Adney works with students on a variety of
activities.
“She works long hours and many weekends to make sure the kids enjoy
well organized, safe and memorable activities outside the classroom,”
the letter stated.
Adney was unable to attend the retirement / awards dinner where
it was announced that she had received the award because she was
taking a final examination in a class at National University where
she is working on her administrative credential.
YHS Principal Steve Raupp presented the award to her the next day
in her ASB class as her students looked on and applauded.
