The fifth annual
American Cancer Society Eastern Madera County Relay For Life raised
$101,587 over the weekend.
These funds will go to the ACS to help provide services and education.
The top money raising team was Oakhurst Lutheran Church with $10,874
followed by EV Free Church, $8,013 and Crab Cakes, $7,419.
Jon Shaw was the top individual fundraiser; the amount he raised
was not available at press time. River Creek Golf Course won the
Spirit Award.
Twenty one teams participated in what Relay officials are calling
“a very successful event.” This year the Relay was held at Wasuma
Elementary School in Ahwahnee.
Highlights of the 24 hour event included campsite judging, a crazy
hat contest, kids camp, games and “lots and lots of food.”
The luminaria ceremony is considered the high point of the Relay.
Lights burned throughout the night in memory of those who have lost
their battle with cancer and in honor of survivors.
