Yosemite High
School graduate, Ted Lilly, sponsored an anti-drug program for the
elementary and high school students last Wednesday.
Lilly graduated from Yosemite High School in 1994 and is currently
playing for the Toronto Bluejays under a five million dollar, two
year contract. “Yosemite High School was good to me and I wanted
to do something for the school,” he said.
The program was also sponsored by the Mountain Christian Center
and Pastor Paul Mozzio. Lilly continued, “I spent many times participating
in the center’s activities.”
THE GROUP THAT KEPT THE STUDENT AUDIENCE’S
ATTENTION WAS BREAKING CEMENT BLOCKS WITH THEIR ELBOWS AND FOREHEADS.
THE GYM FLOOR WAS LITTERED WITH PIECES OF A PHONE BOOK TORN APART.
BESIDES THE BREAKING OF THE BLOCKS, THEY RELATED STORIES OF SUCCESS
AND STORIES OF FAILURES. THE GROUP CALLED THEMSELVES THE “RADICAL
REALTY”. SOME OF THEIR SAYINGS WERE: NEVER GIVE-UP, KEEP THE FLAME
BURNING, SHOW ME YOUR FRIENDS AND I WILL SHOW YOU YOUR FUTURE.
“Alcohol and drugs can ruin your life. Don’t be afraid to listen
to good advice,” said Lilly. The program ended with these words.
“Have control of your life.” “Don’t give up.” “Chase your dream.”
Beside Lilly, the group included Jon Pritikin, Joey Steelman and
Darwin Benjamin.
