Ted Lilly has been chosen to play in baseball's 75th All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 13 in Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

“I’ve been jumping up and down,” stated George McWherter, Ted’s baseball coach at Yosemite High School. “It is an unbelievable achievement. I think the only other player in the Fresno area to make it to an All-Star game was possibly, Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver,” said Coach McWherter. (If any of you trivia buffs know of anyone else, let us know at the Sierra Star.)

“I’ve always had confidence in Ted’s ability, and he is a ‘bulldog’ on the mound. In his senior year, he did not give up an earned run. He is capable and his best years are ahead,” the coach continued. “Ted is just 27 years old.”

The Mountain Area community is buzzing with joy waiting for this year’s All-Star Game with the hope of seeing Ted play.

Earlier in the season this year, Lilly had a streak of five straight wins which is the longest streak by a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays.
“I’m pleasantly surprised. I did not expect this,” said Lilly.

Lilly was traded in the off-season from Oakland Athletics to the Toronto team. At this point of the season, he is the Blue Jays’ most effective pitcher.
