BY EARLENE WARD - FOR THE SIERRA STAR
A total of $1.7
million has been committed to the Performing Arts Center at Yosemite
High School. The Yosemite Joint Union High School District Board
of Trustees has approved bids totaling $810,043 to date.
The $1.7 million includes “soft costs” which are architect fees,
testing, inspection, permits and so forth. Additional bids will
be on the May 20 board agenda for consideration.
The bids were awarded through a competitive process.
Some portions of the project were put out to bid as many as three
times in an effort to get the best price, according to District
Superintendent Bill McCabe.
Bids awarded to date include:
Site work and cast in place concrete, Kelton Excavating, $172,525;
general construction, Davis Moreno, $417,458; finish carpentry and
architectural woodwork, Davis Moreno, $81,785; painting, Saleh,
$18,840; floor coverings, Kimberly, $24,950; and plumbing and fire
sprinkler system, Fresno Plumbing, $94,488.
The former music and drama building at YHS is being converted into
the 400-seat performing arts center. The remodel project includes
replacing the old wood shake roof with metal roofing. Work started
on the performing arts center after a new music classroom building
was completed this past winter.
The completion date for the theater is projected to be the end of
this year.
Once completed, the facility will be available for use by the community
when it is not being used by students at the high school.
