Yosemite High School FFA students
shine at Madera Fair

Yosemite High School Future Farmers of America brought home many awards, including Special Awards, from the Madera Fair. “YHS did a great job,” said FFA Advisor Julie Stewart.

Special Awards went to the following students: Amanda Steen, FFA Outstanding Sheep Exhibitor; Kim Youman, FFA Outstanding Goat Exhibitor, FFA Outstanding Horse Exhibitor and second place in FFA Advanced Master Showmanship; Alex Plumb, third place in FFA Intermediate Master Showmanship; Heather Plumb, third place in FFA Advanced Master Showmanship and Castin Ecklund, Outstanding FFA Beef Exhibitor.

In the swine category, YHS winners were: Travis Ecklund, first in class FFA feeder pig, third in class FFA market hog, second in showmanship FFA intermediate class; Ashley Christensen, third in class FFA market hog; Brandon Jones, fifth place in class FFA market hog; Katie Duvall, fourth in class FFA market hog, sixth place in FFA intermediate showmanship; Shey Faulkner, sixth in class FFA market hog.

In the sheep category, the following students earned awards: Aimee Barigian, second in class FFA market lamb, 12th in FFA intermediate showmanship; Karen Boortz FFA reserve champion Hampshire, fifth in FFA intermediate showmanship; Amanda Steen, fourth in class FFA market lamb, sixth in FFA intermediate showmanship; Bridget Olsten, third in class FFA market lamb, fourth in advanced showmanship; Shannon Smith, first in class FFA market lamb, seventh in FFA advanced showmanship; Bailey Duvall, fourth in class FFA market lamb, ninth in FFA intermediate showmanship; Kaiti Simms, sixth in class FFA market lamb, seventh in FFA intermediate showmanship; Rachel Olsten, fourth in class breeding ewe.

In the market goat category, YHS brought home the following awards: Kim Youman, sixth place in class market goat; Rachel Olsten, second in market goat, first in FFA intermediate showmanship.

In the market beef category, winners were: Alex Plumb, champion FFA market steer, first in FFA intermediate showmanship; Heather Plumb, reserve champion FFA market steer, first in FFA advanced showmanship; Castin Ecklund, second in class FFA feeder steer, first in class FFA breeding heifer; Nicholas Ricker, first in class FFA feeder steer.
