The news at
Yosemite High School last week was really big. More than 90 seniors
were recognized with almost $120,000 in awards and scholarships,
all of it raised by Mountain Area organizations and individuals.
Awards night on May 12 was called “inspirational” by Peggy Cochran
of the Service Organization of the Sierra, one of the fundraising
groups represented.
Awards were given for a variety of reasons but they all recognized
outstanding efforts by a diverse group of YHS students.
Jeanne Ratchford, speaking at the event, said, “The businesses,
individuals and service clubs represented...are here to honor [student]
accomplishments and help support [their] choice to continue [their]
education.” She said the winners should feel extremely proud of
the tremendous community support they had received.
