The Yosemite
High School Chamber Singers have been invited to participate in
a national competition in 2005 after earning 95 out of a possible
100 points at a festival in Anaheim the weekend of May 22-23. All
three YHS choirs, Concert Choir, Treble Ensemble and Chamber Singers,
received high honors and compliments from the judges, according
to their director, Dr. Tony Mowrer.
All members of the YHS Music Department will perform Thursday, June
3, at the Yosemite Lakes Community Church at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will
be available at the door for $5 each. Senior citizen, student and
family prices are also available.
The Concert Choir, the newest of the YHS choral groups, came home
from the festival with a silver medal, with an average score of
85 out of 100 points. The Treble Ensemble also earned a silver medal
with 88 out of 100. The Chamber Singers earned first place and a
gold medal.
The only ensembles invited to national competition are those that
score more than 92 points. One of the festival judges, Dr. Jocelyn
Jensen, wrote of the Chamber Singers’ performance, “Your performance
was breathtaking. I loved the beauty of your phrase shaping. Incredibly
uplifting work!”
