Ashley Vetter, Shannon Smith, Kaiti Simms, Lindsay Bolsta, Amanda
Canning, Taylor Williamson and Heather Plumb catch a ride to the
next convention event.
The 2004-2005
school year is going to be an exciting, fun-packed year for the
Yosemite FFA Chapter. We have a new Ag teacher, Miss Julie Stewart,
who is prepared to jump right into a busy schedule.
Stewart and this years FFA officers planned an exciting array of
activities while on a three-day officer retreat at Shaver Lake.
Yosemite High FFA students are involved in the Madera and Chowchilla
Fairs every year. At these fairs, students are able to showcase
their talents through animal showmanship with animal species ranging
from 1200 (plus) pound steers to rabbits. If raising animals is
not an interest for the student, they are also given the opportunity
to exhibit in categories from sewing, art, cooking, horticulture
and landscaping.
The Future Farmers of America offers a broad spectrum of competitions
and extracurricular activities. Some regional and state level competitions
include: job interviews, business, farming, FFA creed speaking,
parliamentary procedure and banking. As an FFA member you have the
opportunity to run for office at the school, sectional, regional,
state and national levels. Through the FFA there are opportunities
for travel to other continents and national conventions held in
other states.
The Yosemite FFA Chapter sent several students to the California
State Convention in April where they represented the San Joaquin
Region. The FFA students had the opportunity to attend leadership
building workshops and make trips to current operating dairies and
farms. They were able to experience what students at the college
level do to successfully keep the college dairies operating successfully.
At the convention, the students heard inspirational speeches and
personal experiences from Sectional, Regional, State and National
FFA officers.
The Yosemite FFA Chapter has been represented for several years
at the sectional level with local students as officers.
This year YHS juniors Lindsay Boista and Castin Ecklund are the
sectional secretary and sectional vice president respectively.
