Art Opening
Four Art Shows for Fall is opening at the Yosemite High School Badger
Art Gallery tonight. The first student-run art gallery in the county
(yes, the county) will host a grand art opening of four art shows
entitled: Dreaming, Urban Cave, Grey Observation 1, and Skin Deep
the First Layer.
The head of the YHS art department, Rivka Schaffner told me the students
have been working very hard putting this large showing together. The
show Urban Cave will open the new ally gallery space on campus. The
students painted bricks to make an old city ally, and then created
modern graffiti art to decorate it for this showing. Grey Observation
1 is a solo show by student Patch Kientz. Patch is one of the three
young artists chosen for the Sierra Art Trails this year.
This will be a special show for other reasons - the YHS art building
has recently been renamed the Jane and Jack Gyer Art Building, in
honor of the couples’ great contribution to the community. The YHS
fine art department is very popular and has a waiting list of more
then 150 students.
Don’t miss 4 Art Shows For Fall, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. It is the only evening
event the art department will host all year. Admission is free. In
addition there will be face painting, music of D. J. Panda, and a
pottery demonstration.
