“Tropical Paradise” is the 2003 theme for the all night party for the
graduating seniors of Yosemite High School.
The Sober Grad committee is busy planing this annual event for the seniors
to provide them with a safe, sober, fun celebration with their senior
classmates.
Sierra Lanes is the site of this year’s party, which runs from 9 p.m.
to 5 a.m. following graduation ceremonies Wednesday June 11. Doors will
close at 12 midnight, but prizes will be given away starting at 10 p.m.
Seniors must be present to win so they should plan to come and stay until
5 a.m. when the grand prizes will be given away.
This year, Marty and Lela Mafohrt of Madera and Oakhurst Auto Center have
donated a 1990 Toyota Camry 4-door/auto/V-6 that will be given away at
5 a.m., along with cash prizes.
The evening and all activities are free to the seniors. Each senior may
bring one guest at the cost of $20. Sign-ups must be made in the student
store by Tuesday, June 10. All seniors and their pre-signed up guest must
have picture ID to be admitted to the party.
Due to the immense community support, hourly drawings featuring a variety
of prizes will be held, including cash, a mini-refrigerator/freezer, blender,
microwave, Grad-Pack, Palm Pilot, CD/radio/cassette player, automotive
services, hair care services, dinner coupons, amusement park tickets and
more.
Also included for the evening are contests, games, food, bingo, dancing,
pool tournaments, limbo, with a few surprises mixed in. Participants are
encouraged to dress for the “Tropical Paradise” theme by wearing Hawaiian
shirts and board shorts.
Cash donations, snack trays and foods, baked goods, chips and salsa, prize
donations, decorations, breakfast foods are still in need, as is help
with setting up.
