Several Mountain Area high school graduates were honored recently with $500 scholarships. The scholarships were presented by the El Capitan Foundation, together with Yosemite Bank, Sierra Telephone Company, Walt Banning Drilling Company, Oakhurst Sierra Rotary and Dwight Barnes.

The El Capitan Educational Foundation was founded by Priscilla Pike to encourage students to use local community college centers for embarking on higher educational goals, thus helping to better develop and grow local higher educational facilities. Ms. Pike’s vision was to have a local full-fledged community college center, where the curriculum addresses the unique and distinctive academic needs of this community.

Anyone interested in joining the El Capitan Foundation is welcomed to contact Ms. Pike for further information. Her number is 642-2004.
