Take a walk in Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held May 17 and 18 at the Yosemite High School track. Survivors lead the first lap of the day at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, and they lead the last lap of the event at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday, May 18.

A member of each team will be walking or running the track at all times during the 24-hour period. The team fee is $150 and each team member is to raise at least $100 for the American Cancer Society.

Funds raised through the Relay For Life go toward research, education and service.

Last year, the American Cancer Society invested $100 million in peer reviewed cancer research. The ACS has funded 32 researchers who later went on to be awarded the Nobel prize.

The ACS provides materials and educational programs on early detection and prevention of cancer to the community, schools and cancer patients.

The ACS also provides support for patients and their families. Information is available through the 24-hour call center, 1-800-ACS-2345 or on the Web site, www.cancer.org

Locally, there is a cancer support group that meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Oakhurst Medical Center. Facilitators are Robin Blossom, Emily Susann and Belinda Gilbert. For more information call 658-6420 or 1-800-ACS-2345.
