Barry Ferris - Sierra Star Sports
Yosemite High School’s baseball team is ranked No. 1 in the
Central Sections Sierra/Sequoia division. Their record is 10-4 after taking a
double-header from McLane last Saturday. The scores were 6-2 and 10-5 in favor
of the Badgers.
Their 10-4 record also includes their loss to Immanuel. The
Immanuel game was played Wednesday [March 26] at Immanuel.
Jake Burns, Yosemite’s pitcher, dueled Immanuel’s hurler,
Neal Hubman. Hubman had six strikeouts, while Burns had 10. Neal gave up three
walks, while Burns gave up five. Hubman allowed just two Badger hits. Jake
limited Immanuel to three hits. This game was a definite pitching duel as both
team’s bats were silenced.
Yosemite scored its lone run in the third inning on two
base-on-balls to Alex Cano and Chase Solaegui. They moved to second and third
on a passed-ball. Derek O’Reilly hit a two-out double to right field to score
Cano to make the score 1-0, Badgers.
The Immanuel two runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth
on a lead-off walk and a second walk with one out. A base hit by Cardoza along
with an overthrow on the same play accounted for two Immanuel runs that made
the score 2-1 in favor of Immanuel. Immanuel won the game 2-1.
“I’m real proud of our first-place ranking. We have been
working hard especially early in the season.
I hope we keep working hard because this league will get tougher as the
season progresses,” said head coach George McWherter.
