Ivy Kramer has been named Principal First Chair oboist.
Ivy
Kramer, a 2003 graduate of Yosemite High School, has been named
Principal (first chair) oboist for the Wind Orchestra and Selected
Ensemble at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
(Cal Poly).
According to her parents, Dan and BJ Kramer, she was selected for
the top position over students who were already experienced in the
program.
Ivy began her musical career in the fourth grade playing the flute.
She added the piccolo in the sixth grade, often playing both in
a concert. As an eighth grader, she started playing the oboe and
then the electric bass guitar as a high school sophomore.
From sixth to tenth grade she played the electronic keyboard and
as a high school junior and senior she played the Hammond organ.
As a flutist, she was elevated to principal in middle school. She
accompanied the choir under Jackie Byers, including a performance
at the Oak Creek Intermediate graduation in 1999. She participated
in the YHS summer programs during 1998 and 1999 and then was a member
of the YHS Pep Band in 2000. She played in the Oakhurst Community
Band in 2002.
She was principal oboist at YHS three of her four years at the school,
2000-03. She was in the Fresno-Madera County Honor Band in 2001-02
and played at the California State University Fresno Double Reed
Day in 2001 and 2002.
As an elective project, she played with the Woodwind Quintet at
the YHS Spring Concert in 2002. She was a member of the Fresno Youth
Orchestra/Symphony from 2001-03 and was principal oboe in 2002-03.
She is a member of the California State Honor Orchestra this year.
She played the electric bass guitar in the YHS Pep Band in 2001-02
and in the YHS Percussion Band in 2002-03. As a member of the YHS
Jazz Band, she received the National Louis Armstrong Jazz Award
in 2002 during her junior year. She was also the bassist for the
rock band Pandora’s Panacea in the YHS Talent Show in 2002.
She certified on the flute last year for the International Baccalaureate
program.
She performed at memorial services and church holiday services in
2002-03. She has also given private flute tutoring with her student
making first chair at Wasuma School this year.
Ivy is majoring in architecture at Cal Poly with music as a side
interest.
