The Yosemite High School Drama Department competed with 14 other schools from the Bay Area and Northern California at the Mother Lode Drama Festival in Sutter Creek on April 25 and 26.

Jessica Knotts, a senior at YHS, earned a special acting award for her performance in the play, Canadian Gothic. Jessica was one of only eight students selected for this award from more than 200 students who appeared in plays presented for the competition. Jessica is a four-year drama and International Baccalaureate student who has appeared in many productions during her years at YHS.

In other competition, Jessica Knotts and Ashley Newton were semi-finalists in the scene category of the competition; Evelyn Livermore and Lesley MacDonald also made it to the semi-finals in the scene category. These scenes were in the top nine from more than 36 scenes presented to the judges.

Interested persons can see Jessica in her award-winning performance on May 16 and 17, 7 p.m., when the Yosemite High School Drama Department will present an evening of one-act plays. These performances are a fund-raiser for the Drama Department and the suggested donation is $3.
