With the sanctuary seated to near capacity, an evening of music opened with two choirs (Treble Ensemble and Chamber Singers) singing the national anthem. After the national anthem, Treble Ensemble shared a song with the audience that set the tone for the evening. The piece was titled “Spring Song.”

A special section of musical entertainment was set aside for two solo acts. Chris Edwards delighted the audience with a song that he composed utilizing an e. e. cummings poem, and Hillary Biasell sang her rendition of “Pie Jesu.”

An award ceremony was incorporated into the evening’s event to celebrate two individuals: Chris Gordon and Karissa Rickards. Chris received the award for Outstanding Senior Choir Student, and Karissa received the National School Chorale Award. Both senior students were praised by Choir Director Tony Mowrer, and he voiced his disappointment that neither would be returning next year.

Beginning choir performed three selections; Treble Ensemble sang four songs for the evening, and the Chamber Singers finished the concert with five selections. A few of the pieces featured soloists: Melinda Aubin, Brad Lohuis, Amy Scott, Nicole Grimm and Emily Basiletti.

The evening closed with all three choirs on stage performing “America the Beautiful.” After the last line was sung, Steve Raupp, YHS principal, rose to his feet, prompting a standing ovation.
