CLOVIS — May 8 marked the return of the Yosemite FFA to a higher level of representation as Heather Plumb, Yosemite High School junior, and Castin Ecklund, freshman, were slated for the offices of sectional secretary and sectional sentinel, respectively.

Participation in the FFA for the first time in four years reaches far beyond our local chapter with advancements to sectional, regional and then state levels.

Sectional level encompasses East Fresno/Madera County, while regional covers the San Joaquin Valley.

The nomination of the East Fresno Madera sectional officers involved a written application and then an interview among peers, during which candidates were asked questions about their involvement with the FFA.

Next the top ten interviewees from 13 participating schools in the section were slated for offices, followed by the chance to present a speech to a panel of 30 delegates from chapters in the East Fresno/ Madera section, who then voted on the candidates.

Heather Plumb has been in the FFA for the last three years and holds the office of chapter vice president. Since this is Castin Ecklund’s first year in FFA it is an honor for him to be selected as part of this team.
Their duties include the preparation of sectional meetings and competitions as well as regional events. Their responsibilities include attending an officers’ retreat in Exeter with all other sectional officers from the San Joaquin Region.

President Ashley Vetter of the Yosemite FFA Chapter has announced that Ecklund and Plumb will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments at the Yosemite FFA’s End-of-the-Year Banquet, at the end of the month.

Additionally, the evening will include installation of the much-anticipated new Yosemite Chapter officers for the 2003-2004 school year.
