Yosemite High’s Future Business Leaders prepare to become the next entrepreneurs”

Recently, the Oakhurst Sierra Rotary club met with Future Business Leaders of America, a group of Yosemite High School students. These students have banded together to experience their future careers in the business community. They compete with other groups around the state in creating segments of the future businesses they intend to enter.

The purpose of the group is to study and test different areas of business. The testing categories ranges from public speaking to business math. In this year’s competition they placed first in public speaking, seventh in business procedures, fifth in parliamentary procedures, fifth in entrepreneurship and third in business math. They hold meetings on the second Tuesday of every month and new members are always welcome.

The president is Brittany Sellars, reporter Shannon Bartoo, historians Shelby Wagner and Brittany Tidwell. There is mentor program that includes business leaders in the community who meet with them to provide help in their endeavors.

They have many activities such as “job shadowing” where they spend time at businesses for a day experiencing the real aspects of a business. They also have fun events such as dances and attending conferences. They also plan community activities such as March of Dimes fund-raiser cans, and the scavenger hunt for food for needy families at Christmas.

The Rotarians were really impressed with these young students, and nobody at the presentation had any doubts these were our future business leaders, says Rotarian Ken Flowers
