Music students at Yosemite High School practice for an upcoming concert under the direction of instructor Carey Hurst.

What could be better to celebrate spring than to listen to music that takes you from the soothing relaxation of a wind ensemble or choral performance all the way to the intense energy of jazz and percussion?

That’s exactly the plan for two concerts presented by the Yosemite High School Music Department. On Thursday, May 29, 7:30 p.m., there will be a Choral Performance at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church in Oakhurst. On Friday, May 30, 7 p.m., there will be an Instrumental Performance at Mountain Christian Center.

Tickets, available at Dorsey’s Hallmark, Moun-tain Candies and Oakhurst Frameworks, are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students (with ASB card) and children and $15 for families of four or more.

Music lovers will be treated to such delights as the four performances of the Percus-sion Ensemble, such as “Renaissance Dance,” by Filip K. and the Wind Ensemble’s “The Red Balloon,” by Anne McGinty, “Ancient Voices,” by Michael Sweeney, “The Great Locomotive Chase,” by Robert W. Smith, “Shendoah,” by Frank Ticheli and “Puszta,” by Jan Van der Roost.

The Jazz Band will also perform, offering “Green Onions,” arranged by Roy Phillippe, “El Tigre,” by Carl Strommen and “They Went Thata Way,” by Dean Sorenson.

There will be something for everyone and YHS instrumental music instructor, Carey Hurst, invites the community to attend one or both of these celebrations of fine entertainment.
