Two
Yosemite High School music students, Melinda Aubin and Amy Scott,
have been selected for the Western Division of the American Choral
Directors’ Association Women’s Honor Choir.
They are two of 86 women from the four states in the Western Division
selected to participate in the choir. The states included are California,
Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
The choir includes high school juniors and seniors and women in
colleges. The women were invited to submit audition tapes in early
October. Those who were selected for the choir will perform at the
directors’ association convention in Las Vegas on February 28.
“It is a tremendous honor that two girls from YHS were selected
from among the hundreds of tapes that were submitted,” commented
YHS choir director Dr. Tony Mowrer. Additional honors were received
by the music students at the Invitational Choral Festival at Fresno
State University in October. The Treble Ensemble and Chamber Singers
received Excellent and Superior ratings from the judges.
Dr. Mowrer said the judges were very complimentary of these ensembles,
making comments such as “beautiful choral tone” and “good balance”
when critiquing their performances.
