The Yosemite High cheerleading squad has proven to be
one of the best squads around. In fact, they were so good at U.S.A. Cheerleading
Camp that they have been selected to perform at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Besides their technical and physical skills, the cheerleaders were also
scored on their ability to work together as a team and their attitude.
They were rated superior in all categories, opening the door for them
to perform during the half-time show at one of the biggest football games
of the year.
Now comes the more difficult part. The team has to raise $2,000 per participant
to finance the trip. They need at least $150 apiece by September 5 to
assure their spot.
Already there are fund-raisers in place. Hondo’s will be having a dinner
to raise money and KAAT Radio is working to help the team achieve their
goal. There will also be an account set up at Washington Mutual Bank for
those who want make a donation to the team. In all, the team needs to
raise about $20,000 for all the members and coach to have the privilege
of performing at the Pro Bowl.
This will be a most memorable experience for the team and one they have
worked very hard to achieve. Last year the YHS Pep Squad qualified and
went to Florida.
