WEST POINT, N.Y. — Cadet Jessica Frances Burks, a 2002 graduate of Yosemite High School, took part in the annual Plebe-Parent Weekend at the U.S. Military Academy from Oct. 10-12.

Parents Donald and Mary Burks, sister Suzi Burks and brother Jonathan Burks of North Fork visited their cadet for the event. The relatives and friends of plebes (freshmen) are invited to West Point for Plebe-Parent Weekend to tour the grounds, meet the staff and faculty members and learn first-hand about the regimen followed by the academy's newest cadets. Burks, one of approximately 1,000 plebes at West Point, plans to graduate in 2007 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

The mission of the U.S. Military Academy is to “educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country; professional growth throughout a career as an officer in the United States Army; and a lifetime of selfless service to the nation.”
