The Board of Directors of the Oakhurst Community Concert Band is pleased to announce that Randy Hyatt was elected as Chairman of the Board, and appointed Conductor of the Band at the annual meeting held on December 15. Mr. Hyatt succeeds Loren Callan, who passed away on Dec. 5.

Currently, the Assistant Principal and Band Director of Yosemite High School, Mr. Hyatt has been active in music and music education for more than 22 years. While instructing at the Roosevelt School of the Arts in Fresno, he worked with several students who became internationally known performers, including three-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald. He also taught Sharon Leal, from the Fox Television hit “Boston Public.” Mr. Hyatt has also staged and conducted many musical productions in Fresno’s William Saroyan Theater for various large churches in the Fresno area.

Accepting the band’s leadership positions, Mr. Hyatt commented, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to conduct this growing band program. The Community Band not only provides great concert music throughout the year, but the band members also assist the YHS music program as well. High school band students are tutored by more experienced musicians. We are also grateful for the help Community Band members provide by playing at our home football games.”

The first rehearsal for the Spring 2004 Concert will be held at Yosemite High School’s brand new band room on Monday, Jan. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Any musician interested in playing for the concert band is invited to attend.

The Oakhurst Community Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation, and relies on business and individual support.
