Randy Hyatt was elected Chairman of the Board and appointed as Conductor
of the Oakhurst Community Band.
The
Board of Directors of the Oakhurst Community Concert Band is pleased
to announce that Randy Hyatt was elected as Chairman of the Board,
and appointed Conductor of the Band at the annual meeting held on
December 15. Mr. Hyatt succeeds Loren Callan, who passed away on
Dec. 5.
Currently, the Assistant Principal and Band Director of Yosemite
High School, Mr. Hyatt has been active in music and music education
for more than 22 years. While instructing at the Roosevelt School
of the Arts in Fresno, he worked with several students who became
internationally known performers, including three-time Tony Award
winner Audra McDonald. He also taught Sharon Leal, from the Fox
Television hit “Boston Public.” Mr. Hyatt has also staged and conducted
many musical productions in Fresno’s William Saroyan Theater for
various large churches in the Fresno area.
Accepting the band’s leadership positions, Mr. Hyatt commented,
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to conduct this growing
band program. The Community Band not only provides great concert
music throughout the year, but the band members also assist the
YHS music program as well. High school band students are tutored
by more experienced musicians. We are also grateful for the help
Community Band members provide by playing at our home football games.”
The first rehearsal for the Spring 2004 Concert will be held at
Yosemite High School’s brand new band room on Monday, Jan. 12 from
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Any musician interested in playing for the
concert band is invited to attend.
The Oakhurst Community Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public
benefit corporation, and relies on business and individual support.

Randy Hyatt
Randy Hyatt began playing the alto saxophone in the fourth grade!
In high school he participated in marching band, jazz band, pep
band, orchestra, concert band and various ensembles.
He graduated From CSU Fresno in 1978 with a BA in music education.
For the past 22 years, Randy has been active in music education
in Fresno Unified School District. Over the years various positions
have provided experience in every area of music education ranging
from marching band, piano, guitar and elementary classroom music.
While at Roosevelt School of the Arts, Mr. Hyatt worked with several
students who have continued their careers in music or entertainment.
Audra McDonald, three-time Tony Award winner and Sharon Leal who
has participated in several Broadway roles including a current role
on the Fox hit “Boston Public” are among the list of talented students
who have been under Mr. Hyatt’s instruction.
Mr. Hyatt has been active in several community events including
positions at several churches in the Fresno Area. While on staff
at Northwest Church his staged productions in the Saroyan Theater
provided him with the opportunity to utilize professional level
musicians in the professional orchestra and packed in a standing
room only crowd in all productions.
Mr. Hyatt completed his MA in Education Administration with his
Administrative Credential.
For the past three years Mr. Hyatt has served as the Music Coordinator
for Fresno Unified School district.
Mr. Hyatt and his family moved to the Oakhurst community four years
ago.
When the opportunity provided Mr. Hyatt with the opportunity to
use his administrative and musical skills in a position at YHS it
was like a dream come true.
