Sara
Tingley reacts to the news that she has just been awarded a car through
the Gail Bartolotta Memorial. She also received the Staff Award and three

Fifty-two
students received their diplomas June 6 during the Yosemite Joint Union
High School District alternative education graduation ceremony.
Graduates also received scholarships to help them further their education.
One student, Sara Tingley, was awarded a car through the Gail Bartolotta
Memorial. A total of 34 businesses and individuals donated money to purchase
the vehicle.
Miss Tingley received four other scholarships as well. She was awarded
the Irene N. Ahlers Memorial, the Murray Hammerling Memorial, an Oakhurst
Sierra Sunrise Rotary scholarship and the Staff Award.
Marc Utheim, a teacher at Foothill High School, presented the Staff Award
and the car to Miss Tingley. He has been her teacher for almost two years
when she enrolled in the independent study program after she injured her
knee dancing. She hopes to become a professional dancer.
Mr. Utheim says she is a student who has a good attitude and who loves
life. “She also loves to help others,” he said.
Other
award winners were:
Madera County Board of Supervisors, Burton Bessinger, Rosemary Rodriguez
and Donna Williams; and Madera County School Board, Crystal Johnson.
Scholarship
winners were:
VISION, Holly Ralston; El Capitan Foundation, Kathryn Mascola, Maggie
Ramos, Shawn O'Connor, Amber Neufeld, Diane O'Connor, Holly Ralston and
Bryce Seals; and Soroptimist. Janett Leonard.
Student speakers were Crystal Johnson and Rosemary Rodriguez.
