Micaela Young, YHS junior, was picked to attend volleyball tourney in Hawaii.

A Yosemite High School junior will be one of 210 volleyball players chosen from across the United State to attend the TourneySport USA Hawaii in June.

Micaela Young, who has played club volleyball for seven years and high school volleyball for three, was nominated by her volleyball coaches to participate in the tournament.

The 10-day event will include cultural education in the history of Hawaii, some fun and touring time, and five full days of tournament play. The competition will take place a Brigham Young University’s Hawaii campus in the north end of Oahu.

Micaela will have the opportunity to apply for college scholarships.

She is a left-handed, outside hitter on her high school team. She hopes to play volleyball at the college level and is interested in volleyball scholarship possibilities to help pay for her college education.

She has been on the “A” honor roll throughout high school and had perfect attendance last semester.

Besides playing volleyball, Micaela likes to swim, read, ski both downhill and cross country, collect “monkey things,” attend church activities and be with her friends.

She is the daughter of Gil and Meg Young. Her sister, Melinda, a freshman at YHS is also a volleyball player.

Micaela is seeking personal and business sponsorships or donations to help fund her participation in the Hawaii tournament.
