YHS gives student, employee awards

 

Leah Larson:  Chosen as YHS Student of the Year.

Matt Skeahan:  Picked as YHS Teacher of the Year.

David Eames:  Received YHS Staff of the Year award.

 

Yosemite High School seniors received awards at the end-of-the-year assembly last week. Leah Larson was honored as the Student of the Year, she received a complete computer set-up courtesy of the Oakhurst Classic Car Show Committee.

Also honored were Matt Skeahan as YHS Teacher of the Year and David Eames as YHS Staff of the Year. These people were selected by the students while the student of the year was selected by the staff.

Bank of America certificates were presented to the following in the Applied Arts field: Chad Boberg, agriculture; Donell Grizz, home economics; Tyson Sonderland, technology; Richard Feuerstein, trades and industrial. Leah Larson received the Applied Arts plaque.

Fine arts certificates were awarded to: Joy Barney, theater; Amanda Mitchell, choral music; Dalene Herrera, instrumental music and Andrea Starkey, art. Sabrina Coulombe received the Fine Arts plaque.

Liberal Arts certificates went to: Emily Branch, business; Lauren MacLaggan and Hilary Lucas, English; Deanna Hendrickson and Shane Deckert, foreign language; Sarah Scott, history and Bethany Nelson, social science. Josef Lukan received the Liberal Arts plaque.

Science and math certificates were awarded to: Ryan Johnson, computer studies; Kevin Guadagnini, Ryan O’Hanlon and Justen Peek, mathematics; and Brie Solaegui, science. The Math and Science plaque went to Saranya Srinivasan.

The Madera County School Board Association awards went to Saranya Srinivasan and Ryan O’Hanlon.

The Air Force Math and Science Award was presented to Saranya Srinivasan.

Jessica Burks was honored by the U. S. Army for being accepted into the West Point Military Academy Prep School in New Jersey.

California Interscholastic Fe­der­ation [CIF] Scholar Athlete awards went to McKenzie Cox and Justen Peek. Peek also re­ceived the Central Section honor.

YHS Athletes of the Year were McKenzie Cox and Eric Stolp.

Interact won the Club-of-the-Year award for its service to the school and the community.
