COARSEGOLD — Kathryn Mascola, a senior at Foothill High
School in Coarsegold, was recently honored as the Sierra Sunrise Rotary Club’s
Student of the Month.
Kathryn has attended Foothill High School since her freshman
year. She has completed all of her academic requirements to graduate except her
senior project, which she will complete by the end of January, almost a full
semester ahead of schedule.
In addition to completing her high school education early,
Kathryn is also attending the Oakhurst Center of State Center Community College
District, and she works 30 hours a week at the Blue Heron Restaurant in
Yosemite Lakes Park.
She participates on the school’s Mock Trial team and has
been recognized as an outstanding witness. She also participates in the
American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life and, according to her teacher, Rick
Solomon, she is the “first student to volunteer to assist others to help them
succeed.”
In his introduction of Kathryn at the Rotary Club meeting,
Mr. Solomon said, “Kathryn is one of those unique students every teacher longs
for. On the one hand, I can’t wait to watch her succeed, and on the other, I
hate to see her leave.”
