Yosemite High School senior Justen Peek has been selected as the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Central Section Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

This award honors students who have excelled in athletics as well as academics throughout their high school careers.

Mr. Peek was recently recognized as a Pitman Scholar, meaning he is a class valedictorian with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher.

He is the second student in the history of YHS to receive this award. Caleb Roope was honored for the 1988-89 school year as California Scholar/Athlete of the Year. Other YHS students have been named finalists over the years.

Mr. Peek has participated in football, golf, basketball, track and baseball during his years at YHS.

As a freshman, he was named Most Valuable Player in football and was the low scorer of the year in varsity golf. In his sophomore year he was quarterback on the varsity football team. He was named Underclassman Player of the Year and he made All-League. He also participated in basketball and track.

As a junior, he was on the football and track teams. He was the First Team All-League quarterback and the First Team All-League defensive safety.

This year, as a senior, he has been on the football and baseball teams. He was named the Central Sequoia League Defensive Player of the Year in football.

He was also All-League quarterback and was named to the First Team All Stars by the Fresno Bee as a linebacker. He broke two previous passing records at YHS this year.

This summer, he will be a linebacker on the North/South All-Star Team playing June 28 at Chowchilla High School. July 20 he will play in the City/County All-Star Game at Grizzly Stadium. He will be a linebacker in that game as well.

Mr. Peek was made Academic All-League in every sport in every season he played.

During his high school years, he organized the bowling league for the special education students on the YHS campus.
