Musical treats planned by YHS instrumentalists

Yosemite High School musicians have been preparing for their Spring Concert, to be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31, in Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church.

Bill Samuelson, teacher in the Instrumental Music Department, says that 80 youth will be appearing in one or more of the five performing groups.

The wind ensemble will open the program, followed by both the concert and jazz band performances. The concert band is composed chiefly of freshmen.

A band arrangement, “In a Gentle Rain,” will feature soloist Ivy Kramer on the oboe, accompanied by pianist Grant Fonda.

Grant is one of the two student conductors; the other will be Greg Lanson.

Ten classical guitarists make up the guitar ensemble, which played recently at the Spring Fling in North Fork.

Rousing selections by the percussion ensemble, including xylophone, marimba, vibraphone and bell players, will conclude the evening.

Tickets are available at Oakhurst Frameworks, Dorsey’s Hallmark or at the door. Admission for adults is $3; students, $1.
