‘Good ratings’
for YHS music groups
Yosemite High School report
The Yosemite High School Chamber Singers and Treble Ensemble
recently participated in a Choral Festival at California State University,
Fresno and came home with “good ratings,” according to Tony Mowrer, YHS music
teacher, who said he was “very pleased” with the students.
The Chamber Singers, a group of 18 students with prior music
experience, earned a rank of 1-, which Mr. Mowrer says, translates to an A-.
The Treble Ensemble, composed of 14 girls, most of whom are
beginning students, earned a rank of 2+, or a B+.
More than 24 schools participated in the two-day event,
which featured classical music. Groups were scored from 1 to 5 with 1 being the
best. “Our scores were really pretty good,” Mr. Mowrer said, adding that most
of the schools were bigger than YHS.
Schools came from throughout the valley to the competition
and also from as far away as Compton and Stockdale. Judges were all college or
university choral directors.
The Chamber Singers and Treble Ensemble have a number of
holiday performances scheduled for various community organizations and events.
The entire YHS music department, including choral and instrumental, will
perform at a winter concert December 12 and 13.
