All Mountain Area school boards to elect new trustees

Candidates from five Mountain Area school districts are running for office.

For Yosemite High School District electrical contractor Dan Burrow is challenging incumbent Bert McSwain from the Bass Lake area. From the Oakhurst area Priscilla Pike, a court reporter, is hoping for the seat held by incumbent Dennis Adams.

Bass Lake Elementary School District has educator David Read running against incumbent Leslie Parish from the Ahwahnee area. Voters will have a chance to choose two from the three candidates from the Oakhurst area: retired business manager Ron Bucheger, incumbent Thayne Nilmeier and environmental consultant Bill Stolp.

Chawankee Unified School District, a newly organized district, will elect five board members from nine candidates. From the Sierra View area, two seats are open for five candidates: Roy Robinette, a member of the old Chawanakee board; Jeff Rumney, business owner and appointed incumbent; and challengers retired school secretary Sylvia Huddleston, business owner Art Johnson, and insurance claim representative Sharalyn Ayers.

From the Spring Valley area Barbara Bigelow, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

From the North Fork area three are running for two seats. Cliff Smith, retired military and member of old Chawanakee board is hoping to fill one of the seats as are appointed incumbents Rob Russell and local business owner Claudia Box.

In Coarsegold School District five candidates are vying for three seats. Incumbents Christine Wilder and Cheri Anderson and being challenged by homemaker Kathy Casey, retired school administrator Thom Guthrie and Greg Schoonard, law enforcement.

In the Raymond-Knowles School District three are running for three seats, so the candidates will not be on the ballot.
