Mary McKennon of the Yosemite High School varsity cheerleading team is holding several fund-raisers so she can participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

Fund-raiser events planned

A chance to be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has a Yosemite High School cheerleader holding a series of fund-raisers to earn money for the trip.

Mary McKennon has been invited to attend and perform at the annual New York City parade after attending cheer camp in Santa Barbara this summer.

It will cost $1,899 plus airfare to attend the event.  The amount will include hotel, meals, parade uniform, dance class, videotape of the event and a couple sightseeing tours with the cheer group.

“Going to New York and being in this parade is a dream,” says Mary.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I would love to experience.”

As her family can’t afford the full cost, Mary is trying to earn her own money.

She will hold a car wash and bake sale at Kwik-Serve gasoline station in Coarsegold from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday [August 10].

The station is located between the auto repair garage and the Coarsegold Market.

Another car wash, bake sale and raffle will be held at the Rite Aid parking lot in Oakhurst on Saturday, August 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those interested in donating to her trip can deposit funds at Yosemite Bank in the name of Mary McKennon or mail to McKennon, c/o Macy’s Parade, Post Office Box 451, Coarsegold 93614.

Checks should be made payable to Mike Miller and Associates. She needs to have all her expenses earned by August 26.
