Career Skills Olympics see YHS students win

A number of Yosemite High School students recently won prizes at the Career Skills Olympics in Fresno. The students are in Regional Occupational Program [ROP] classes at YHS.

The Career Skills Olympics is for students in Madera, Mariposa and Fresno counties who are enrolled in ROP classes.

The purpose of the Olympics is to provide recognition and encouragement for accomplishments in career skills, improve participation in educational programs and encourage public support of career preparation education.

The YHS students who received awards were: Tyson Sonderland, silver medal in media and top animator; Erick Rohrer, fourth in auto technology; Jared Shisler, fourth in welding and Marcus Trimble, fifth in welding.

Students participated in the areas of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, mechanical drawing, digital imaging, architectural drafting, auto technology, welding, Web page design, media and medical terminology.

Mike Monahan, YHS auto technology teacher, noted that the Olympics involved “tough competition” for the students.
