YHS 2001 “Senior of the Year” Sierra Smith; “Teacher of the Year” Diane Adney; “Teacher of the Year” Deborah Brown and “Staff of the Year” Lori Thompson, honored as the school year draws to a close.

 

 

Year-end honors

at YHS

 

Sierra Smith, a Yosemite High School senior who hopes to one day be the head events coordinator for Disney, has been named the “Senior of the Year.”

 

The staff members selected Sierra for this honor.

Members of the Senior Class selected a “Staff of the Year” and two as ”Teacher of the Year.” Lori Thompson, athletic trainer, was honored as “Staff of the Year” and Diane Adney and Deborah Brown shared honors as “Teac­her of the Year.”

Mrs. Adney is student activities director and a teacher. Mrs. Brown is a social science teacher.

 

These awards were among those handed out at the YHS year-end awards assembly.

 

Also honored at that time were Joe and Sherry Sciarrino (pictured on the left) who received a Badger Y Award for their outstanding service to the school.

 

The two retiring YHS teachers, Connie Fox and Mike Sommerfield, also received Badger Y Awards from YHS Princi­pal Steve Raupp.

 

Madera County Board of Edu­cation awards were received by Ginny Corless and Josh Figatner.

Certificates: Agriculture, Mark Stephens; home economics, Tania Frost; trades and industrial, Andrew Trimble; business, Natalie Herrera; foreign language, Crystal Sanders and Andrew Wells; history, Jessie Smith; social science, Carrie Skulley; English, ginger Campbell and Anne Graham; computer studies, David Fletcher; science, Bryce Bullock; mathematics, Joshua Figatner, Matt Montgomery and Kyle Robinson; art, Jillian Cochran and Jannell Newsom; music, Gary Pheister and Michelle Sawvell; drama, Michelle Ousey.

 

Bank of America Plaque recipients; Applied Arts, Kelly Smith; Liberal Arts, Brandi Tsang; Science and Math, virginia Corless and Fine Arts, Alison Sciarrino.

 

Armed Forces representatives were present and handed out awards. The Air Force Math and Science Award went to Ginny Corless. The United States Marine Corps presented awards to Matt Carter, Jessie Smith and Anne Graham. Army awards went to Ginger Campbell and Joey Medley.

 

The Navy awards went to junior Saranya Srinivasan and Ryan O’Hanlon and sophomores Luke Millar and Beth Luca.

 

Scholar Athlete awards were presented to Adam Cox and Jamie Walthius. Senior Athlete awards went to Adam Cox and Melissa Carr.

 

Interact was named the Club of the Year for the service its members render to the school and the community.
