SANGER — Yosemite’s freshman, Fred Worstsein, placed third in the 200-meter dash in the Valley Championships last week to qualify for the state meet.  His time was 22.32 seconds.

This is the first time since 1993 that Yosemite has placed an athlete in the state meet. It was last done by Jed Saueressig in 1993. He ran in the 3,200 meters

“Coming off his injury from last week, Fred came through big time in the 200 to get third place by eight one hundredth of a second [.08],” says head coach Walker Vaughn. “He is going to the state meet. He is one of the top 18 athletes in the 200 in the entire state of California.

Fred also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05.

Adam Cox placed sixth in the 110 high hurdles. His time was 15.23. His time in the 300-meter run was 41.05. “Adam capped off an amazing high school career which saw him compete four years at the Valley finals,” says Vaughn.

Melissa Carr recorded  a 63.6 in the 400 meters.

Some of the past Badger athletes to qualify for state were Scott Cole in the 3,200 meters, Shelley Winchester in the triple jump, Charlie Remaks in the discus, Gary Sorvig in the 300 hurdles and Adam Webber in the 400 meters. The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, in Sacramento.
