Badgers blast Bears in volleys

“Everyone played great. Our active net play is something we have been working
on, and it came together against Mariposa,” said head volleyball coach Michele
Chenowith.
“It was a
great start. Our energy level was high and our aggressiveness remained throughout
the match,” she continued. The game was played a week ago Thursday.
The
visiting team, Yosemite, won three straight games by the scores of 15-1, 15-8
and 15-2. Sharleena Hanft, Kristen Lownsbury, Micaela Young and Jennifer
Kurtley pounded the Bears all night at the net resulting from accurate sets
from McKenzie Cox.
Hanft,
Lownsbury and Young had six kills apiece. Hanft had four stuff blocks followed
by Young’s three and Kurtley’s two.
Cox had18
assists and seven digs. Young and Lownsbury had six digs each.
“Jenna
Burrough’s serving was spectacular, and Lownsbury and Young hit bullets from
the outside hitting position for winners,” said Chenowith. “Kurtley was very
active around the net.”
The
Badger’s next game was Tuesday at Chowchilla.
