Linda Heinbach of the Yosemite High School Sober Grad
committee helps California Highway Patrol officer, Bill Beltz, unload prizes
that will be given away at the all-night Sober Grad party for graduating
seniors. The party will begin after graduation on Friday [June 8] at Sierra
Lanes in Oakhurst.
A huge
collection of prizes awaits graduating Yosemite High School seniors at this
year’s all night party at Sierra Lanes in Oakhurst.
“Tropical
Paradise” is this year’s theme for the party that begins at 9 p.m. after graduation exercises on Friday [June 8],
and ends at 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
Doors will
close at midnight, but prizes will be given away starting at 11 p.m.
There will
also be lots of food, games, contests, casino, bingo, disc jockey with dancing,
pool tournaments, sumo wrestling, giant boxing-glove ring, limbo, hula, “plus a
few surprises,” says Linda Heinbach, head of the Sober Grad committee.
Seniors
must be present to win prizes. The grand prizes will be given away at 5 a.m, so
seniors should plan to stay all night. If they leave the party before 5 a.m,
they may not come back.
Two
vehicles will be awarded to two lucky seniors. Curt’s Auto has donated a 1987
Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible and Oakhurst Auto Center has donated a 1989
Toyota Camry five-speed.

Marty Mayfohrt [center], owner of Oakhurst Auto
Center, stands next to cars he has donated to Sober Grad parties in Madera
County including a Toyota Camry to Yosemite High School’s party. With Mr.
Mayfohrt are Johnathan Meyer and Philip Shinen.
Both
vehicles have been safety checked and are in great condition.
Other
prizes are cash, mini-refrigerator-freezer, blender, microwave, Grad-Pack,
TV-VCR, CD-radio-cassette player, skateboard, scooters, automotive services,
hair-care services, spa treatments, dinner coupons, amusement-park tickets and
much, much more.
The
evening and all activities are free to the seniors. If a senior wants to bring
one guest, the guest must pay $10 and sign up in the Student Store by Thursday
[June 7].
All
seniors and their pre-signed-up guest must
have a picture identification to be admitted to the party.
“Our
community has been most generous in its support of this worthwhile event,” says
Mrs. Heinbach. “Because of this, there will be hourly drawings for a variety of
great prizes.”
The Sober
Grad committee puts the party on for the seniors to provide them with a safe,
sober, fun celebration. Any questions or donations: Linda Heinbach, 683-4667,
