YHS committee named to dive into pool issue

The Yosemite Joint Union High School District authorized the formation of a Pool Committee at its December meeting.

The committee members will investigate means by which a pool could be built on the Yosemite High School campus for use by the students and the community.

A meeting will be held Monday, January 7, at 6 p.m. in the District Board Room at YHS. Anyone interested in working toward the construction of a pool complex is welcome to attend, according to District Superintendent Bill McCabe.

Mr. McCabe says the committee will be exploring all options that will include, but not be limited to, county participation, a recreation district, private donations, grants, federal funds, state funds and anything else members suggest.

The YJUHSD has already developed basic plans for the pool complex that would provide for competitive swimming opportunities as well as recreational opportunities.

Mr. McCabe says the pool the district has planned is similar to the one recently put in at Chowchilla High School. It is a state-of-the-art waveless pool. He said it has received “strong reviews” from all districts that have seen it.

Cost of the pool only is approximately $800,000. A complete complex would include changing rooms, fencing, concrete decks, a concession building and restrooms, which are estimated at an additional $700,000, making the entire complex a $1.5 million project.
