Yosemite High School Report

Yosemite High School students who had perfect attendance, and no tardies, from November 1-30 had the opportunity to receive a variety of gifts during a recent drawing.

The Shining Stars program is designed to reward students who attend school every day and who are on time for all of their classes. YHS Assistant Principal Randy Haggard is heading up the incentive program.

The top prize for the November drawing was a Winter Formal Package including two tickets to the dance, a $25 gift certificate for dinner at Sierra City Grill, gift certificates for hair and nails at Chris’s Cutting Crew, and a $50 gift certificate from Gottschalks.

Ronnie Miears, a sophomore at YHS, won that prize.

Numerous other prizes were awarded to students who qualified for the drawing.

In addition to donations from local businesses, funds for the program come from the Madera County Sheriff’s Department Drug Suppression Grant and from the School Improvement Program.

One of the prizes is chauffeur service by YHS Principal Steve Raupp to each of the winner’s classes Friday [December 14]. Mr. Raupp will drive the student to all of the classes that day in the utility vehicle used by the campus’ head custodian, Lance Hays, that is now being referred to a “Lance’s Limousine.” That prize was won by Christopher Taylor.

A total of 208 students qualified for the drawing. Each month a student has perfect attendance, they are entered into a drawing to be held in June for “really big prizes,” Mr. Haggard says.

The next drawing will be held in early February, covering the period through January 31.

Anyone interested in donating a prize for these drawings can contact Mr. Haggard at 683-4667, extension 307, or Jan Marsh, 683-4667, extension 320.
