MADERA —
The Yosemite Future Farmers of America had its best show ever at this year’s
Madera District Fair.
Competing
against schools from throughout the country, the FFA members proved successful
in every division they entered.
In
poultry, Hollie Shreve won first-place ducks. Heather Norman showed a turkey,
placed first in advance showmanship and ultimately won small animal
round-robin.
Chad
Boberg debuted his Blue Jersey Giants chickens, the first of its kind in the
area.
In the
swine division, Tori Rubottom won grand champion FFA Hampshire and fifth place
in advanced showmanship.
Mandie
Miles had the reserve champion FFA Hampshire and won third place in
intermediate showmanship.
Katie
Bushman also placed fifth in intermediate showmanship.
Showing of sheep
In the
sheep show, Heather Norman exhibited the FFA reserve grand champion lamb, and
finished in fifth place in intermediate showmanship.
Heather
Plumb won first place in novice showmanship, followed by Ashley Vetter, third;
Amy Rhorig, fifth; and Jennifer Norman, eighth.
Butch
Romine had the first-place feeder lamb and was second place in intermediate
showmanship. Katie Romine won her market class and took eighth place in advance
showmanship.
Kimberlee
Youman won FFA advanced showmanship for goats, reserve champion breeding doe,
and was second in her market class.
Prepare for nationals
Now
students are busy getting ready for the Grand National Livestock Exhibition
in San Francisco on October 25-28.
Because
there is no sale at this show, students will be offering their projects to the
public for custom cut and wrapped pork.
