Badger football opens Friday at Mendota

The
Badgers will open the season with Mendota Friday [September 7], a team that
will carry four sophomores who will play. Mendota’s record last season was
5-5. The Aztecs’ quarterback, Michael Zapata, a senior, did not play last
season.
“Depth is
a problem, but there is reason for a good season,” said head coach Joe Gamez.
Mendota
will have their leading tackler, Elvis Villagas, back as linebacker. The Aztecs
are an inexperienced team that may have trouble moving the ball against the
Badgers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday [Sept. 7]. The junior varsity game will
begin at 5:30 p.m.
Yosemite
High’s football team completely dominated the Mariposa Bears in last week’s
scrimmage held at Yosemite High School.
The
Badgers’ offense moved up and down the field with ease. Their passing game
clicked for several touchdowns, and the running game which was not quite as
effective as the passing game, still moved the ball.
