A cross country first for YHS

DINUBA — A
Yosemite High School freshman beat 70 participants to clock the fastest time
ever by a YHS freshman on the Dinuba Invitational course.
Badger
Matt Prescott with a time of 13 minutes, 25 seconds, won the sophomore boys
race at the meet held last Saturday at Dinuba.
The competing schools were McLane, San
Joaquin Memorial, Sierra, Chowchilla, Dinuba, Washington Union, Kerman,
Kingsburg and Woodlake.
The first
race for Yosemite High School, was the 2.5-mile race for the freshmen and sophomore
boys.
Michael
Vaughn followed Prescott with a 14:51 time. Miles Church finished in 15:22.
The
remaining Badgers’ times were the following: Jim Springer 15:32, Chase McCabe
16:09, Seth McClure 16:15, Andrew Boortz 16:43, John Padilla 16:59, David Hernandez
17:13, Andrew Durrell 18:13, Matt Fullerton 19:38, and Elisha Plunlee
19:50.
Girls race
Coach
Ellen Peterson entered all of the freshmen and sophomore girls in the varsity
girls race because they were latefor the
second race of the day.
Yosemite’s
Rebecca Warr placed third out of 70 runners. Her time was 16:55.
She was
followed by Janella Moylan with a time of 16:59, and Stephanie Miller, who ran
a 17:05.
The
following runners were Amanda Hinkle 17:09, Katie Romine 17:38, Jennifer Hoskinson
18:16, Jessica Burks 18:17, Jessica Rybazyk 18:19, Alana Stewart 18:35, Shannon
Moylan 18:50, Amanda Canning 18:53, Alica Sanchez 19:35, Katie Hardesveldt
19:24, April Martin 19:54, Jennifer Borgardus 19:56, Sara Powell 20:37, Shawna
Rubottum 22:30, and Courtney Johnson 24:21.
Varsity
boys
In the
fourth race, for varsity boys, the Badgers’ Ryan Johnson came in third overall
and first for Yosemite. The senior ran an impressive 12:45. Second for Yosemite
was junior Greg Stewart. He ran 13:20. Senior David Padilla was third for the
Badgers with a time of 13:21. He was followed by junior Bray Jacks in 13:48.
Junior Van
Contero’s 13:50 time placed him in the fifth spot for Badger runners.
Other
times for the Badgers are the following: Beau Bean 14:14, Sammy Mendez 14:27,
Derek Bogardus 15:23, Adam Kernaghan 15:44, Seth Elizalde 16:13, Kevin
Guadagnini 16:13, and Brian Trukki 19:09.
The next
meet is the Kingsburg Invitational Saturday [September 8], at Kingsburg High
School.
