Awards given at baseball banquet

George
McWherter has high praise for retiring assistant coach, Dan Roberts.
The
Yosemite’s baseball season finished on a high note as the parents, coaches,and
players filled the banquet room at Hondo’s restaurant for its annual awards
dinner. It was held last Tuesday.
The aroma
of good food and the emotion of belonging to a well-organized baseball program
filled the room. Aaron Eames, the junior varsity coach led off the program by
highlighting the improvement of the J.V. players.
“We turned
a bad team into a good team,” remarked Coach Eames. He continued. “This was a
great experience for me. These were great kids playing a great game.”
The junior
varsity special awards went to the following: Daniel Talbot, Most Inspirational
Player, Sam Duval, Coaches Award, Daniel Buller, Out-standing Pitcher, Quint
Brown, the Sparky Anderson Award, and freshman Jake Burns got the Most Valuable Player award.
Varsity
coach George McWherter was next to address the enthusiastic throng. He gave
special thanks to his assistant coaches, especially to Dan Roberts who finished
his last season of coaching do to his business demands.
“ Dan
Roberts was a great help. He was a large part of the baseball program besides
being my best friend,” commended McWherter.
The
Badgers finished with a 6-6 league record to qualify them for third place and a
trip to the playoffs. Their season record was 18-12.
George
congratulated the parents for their support. “Our program is blessed to have
such great parents,” boasted Mc-Mcwherter.
Academic
All League Awards went to Daniel Jagd, Tommy Shennan, Eric Stolp, and Steven
Shatka. These players had a 3.5 over-all grade point average.
The
Coaches Award went to Daniel Jagd and Dustin Allen. The Most Improved Player
Award went to Travis Trettin.
Wade
Knight received the Most Inspirational Award. Eric Stolp and Jeff Easley tied for
the Most Outstanding Player Award.
First team
All-League went to Dustin Allen, Eric Stolp, Wade Knight, Travis Trettin and
Jeff Easley.
Second
team All-League were Warren Larson, Tom Shen-nan,and Daniel Jagd.
Next
year’s varsity will have 11 returning players.
